“I Love You” Part 1

1 Cor 14:1

“Pursue love, yet earnestly desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.”
‭‭
You can speak in tongues. Understand all things. Have all the knowledge. Have all the faith. Can do all the good. But if you don’t have love, you have nothing. Saying I love you was always something I struggled with when I was younger. I grew up in a household where it wasn’t said. It was more shown by gifts and things. I had shoes. I had clothes. I had games. I had food. I had a place over my head. That was mom’s way of showing love. She never said it. I didn’t understand it back then but as I got older I began to. Not all love is the same though. There are 3 distinct types of love.

Eros- Passionate, intense, and often sexual love, characterized by desire and infatuation.

Philia- a fondness or liking, loyalty, and goodwill between friends, built on shared interests and mutual respect.

Agape- Selfless, unconditional

1 Cor 13 gives us an example of what Agape love is. God type of love.

“Love is patient, love is kind, it is not jealous; love does not brag, it is not arrogant. It does not act disgracefully, it does not seek its own benefit; it is not provoked, does not keep an account of a wrong suffered, it does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth; it keeps every confidence, it believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails;”

Most people when they say I love you it’s more the friendship type of love. They’re fond of you. They like you. Philia love. And when you’re in relationships or situationships, it’s the Eros love. It’s not too often we see Agape love. Selfless. Most people come with conditions to their love. I only will love you because you do this or do that or you make me feel good. You can’t say I love you and actions not follow. Empty words. That’s not real love. There’s only one way to really love like God and that’s through God. In 1 John it says we love, because He first loved us. Knowing how much we are loved really sets the tone on how we treat others. When you know your sins are forgiven, you can’t hold grudges. You change the way you respond. You operate from that grace. That love that was given. The second greatest command is love your neighbor as yourself. And that in itself could be an issue. We don’t really love ourselves. We do all these enhancements. We eat any and everything. We don’t workout. We do drugs. We’re insecure. Prideful. So when someone tells me they love me, in my mind I’m thinking if they really love themselves for real. God is love. He really loves us and He’s coming back to get us.

If you are not saved or know someone that isn’t saved and what I mean by saved is believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior please follow the ABC’s of salvation below by repeating.

Accountability- say, Dear God, I am a sinner,

Believe- I believe Jesus Christ is the son of God and that he died for all of my sins, past, present, and future and finished the work on the cross.

Confess- I believe that you resurrected from the grave on the 3rd day and confess you as Lord and Savior of my life. Heavenly Father thank you for sending Jesus to die in my place and I am now the Righteousness of God through Christ Jesus.

“that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

‭‭Romans‬ ‭10‬:‭9‬ ‭

After this, simply believe it in your heart.
