John 16:8-11
“And He, when He comes, will convict the world regarding sin, and righteousness, and judgment: regarding sin, because they do not believe in Me; and regarding righteousness, because I am going to the Father and you no longer are going to see Me; and regarding judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.”
The Holy Spirit does not convict believers (Christians) of sin. That’s a misquote of John 16:8. Before I explain why, ask yourself did you know the difference between right and wrong prior to being saved? That answer is of course, Yes.
“And when He [the Holy Spirit] has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: This states that the Holy Spirit will not only do 3 different things but for 3 different individuals.
For the world, He will convict of sin. This is for unbelievers and notice that sin is singular. In a world of billions of people why would sin be singular? Because sin is a noun, meaning mindset or sinful nature. Sins, when used as a verb are actions produced by the mindset of sin (noun).
For believers in Christ, the Holy Spirit convicts us or better reminds us of our Righteousness in Christ. As a believer the noun, sin meaning mindset is wiped away and is replaced by the Holy Spirit. This does not mean that believer don’t sin (verb) it means as 1 John 2:1 says, when we sin we have an advocate (Jesus) with the Father. Non believers don’t have Jesus as an advocate which means they are guilty and responsible for their sins.
Lastly, the Holy Spirit judged the ruler of this world, Satan. Colossians 2:15 states that, “having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.
If you are not saved or know someone that isn’t saved and what I mean by saved is believe that Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior please follow the ABCs of salvation below by repeating.
Accountability- say, Dear God, I am a sinner,
Believe, I believe Jesus Christ is the son of God and that he died for all of my sins, past, present, and future and finished the work on the cross.
Confess - I believe that you resurrected from the grave on the 3rd day and confess you as Lord and Savior of my life. Heavenly Father thank you for sending Jesus to die in my place and I am now the Righteousness of God through Christ Jesus.
After this, simply believe it in your heart.
I’m So Free!!!
